Jay Reid: Since age 19, comedian Jay Reid has been entertaining audiences in Las Vegas and beyond. The Vegas native began his comedy career performing stand-up in small clubs throughout his hometown, and has since appeared in comedy venues from Los Angeles to Iraq. Notorious for his stand-up comedy, Reid has also established a name for himself as a writer, actor and television host. Reid’s first big break came when he was chosen to be a contestant on BET’s (Black Entertainment Television Network) comedy competition, "Coming to the Stage," where he went head-to-head in a weekly comedic battle against other rising comedians. As a result of the appearance and his overwhelming talent, Reid quickly began garnering attention and booking performances at notable comedy clubs such as The Laugh Factory, The Hollywood Improv, and The Comedy Store.
Never forgetting home, Reid continually performed for audiences on the world-famous Las Vegas Strip at renowned hotels and casinos including Caesars Palace, Planet Hollywood, The Riviera, and the "Brad Garrett Comedy Club" at the MGM Grand. Additionally, he hosted his own monthly comedy showcase, the “Grown and Sexy Comedy Show,” and "Comedy & Cocktails" that featured well-known comedians and musicians.
In July 2009, Reid’s newfound popularity resulted in him being chosen to tour Iraq to entertain our U.S Army troops. Most recently, Reid was approached to be a contestant on the stand-up comedy competition, “Who’s Got Jokes?” This one-hour televised program, hosted by Bill Bellamy, aired on cable television network TV One. Reid competed against 24 other comedians from across the country for the “Jokes” title. During the season premier episode, Reid experienced both joy and pain, when he advanced to the semi-finals and his father, Sammy, passed away on the same day. In front of 350 comedy fans, Reid triumphed over other up-and-coming comedians in the finals to take the crown of this competition. Reid outjoked the competition and was voted by America as the winner of “Who’s Got Jokes?”
After “Jokes” Reid quickly gained national attention and new fans. His animated and relatable style of comedy landed him a feature spot at the 2010 Essence Music Festival. Additionally, he filmed his own 30-minute comedy special “L.M.A.O” that premiered on TV One. Reid has since expanded his comedic talent into film, television and music. The popular funnyman was featured in the blockbuster movie “21” starring Kevin Spacey. Additional credits includes the recent release of the second of two comedy albums, titled “J.Reid: Comedy Mixtape Volume 2,” featuring parodies, skits, and stand-up. Fans can also listen to him live at 10 am, every Saturday as he co- hosts “Straight Talk” with Las Vegas Commissioner Lawrence Weekly on 88.1 KCEP.
Reid is still continuing to perform his first love, stand-up, at comedy venues throughout the country. He is currently on tour with fellow comedian Bill Bellamy on “The Ladies Night Out Tour,” as well as preparing for his solo tour which commences in January. Reid will be on the Showtime Network in early 2012 for the highly anticipated comedy special Bill Bellamy’s “Ladies Night Out".
